Day 4
There are some things on my travels in the past that I’ve chosen to share, through stories and photographs, with friends, family, and Loose Luggage readers.  Most things, actually.  But on several of the trips I’ve been on there have been certain sacred moments that were so personal, [...]

Haiti. Day 3.
Haiti. Day 3.

I apologize for the delay in getting day 3 up here.  It’s both time consuming and personally exhausting to write these.
Continued from Day 1 & Day 2.

Day 3.
At approximately 5 o’clock in the morning I heard the panicked and urgent voice of Doug.  He had ripped open the zipper of the tent that Ben [...]

Haiti. Day 2.
Haiti. Day 2.

Continued from Day 1.  Please forgive typos– I’m sure they are many.

Day 2
The effect the vibrant-hot morning sun made through the dust and filth that was kicked up across the city of Port au Prince was foreboding and ethereal.  It turned everyone on the horizon into shadowy figures.  My drowsiness faded and I sat up [...]

Haiti. Day 1.
Haiti. Day 1.

Over the course of the next 7 days, I’m going to be publishing here on Loose Luggage a seven-part article about my recent trip to Haiti in the wake of the 7.1 earthquake that has now claimed some 200,000 lives.  Each part of this article will correspond (roughly) with 1 day of my trip.

Native Son
Native Son

This morning I photographed a Sikh wedding in New Jersey. After which I worked on a contract for a shoot in Turks & Caicos in April and then headed out to SoHo to photograph a cocktail party. At the cocktail party I chatted with someone who currently works in finance, but has interests [...]

A great Sunday.
A great Sunday.

I have been (obviously) relatively absent from the blogging world for the last week or so.  And of late (in general) my posts have been fewer and far(rer– wish that was a word) between.  I can’t apologize, as this has been a really great time of productivity and rest for me that has been much [...]

The Pearl of the West Indies: Images from the recent earthquake in Haiti

I’ve finally finished my photos and slideshow from my trip to Haiti, thanks to “Soundslides,” which is a powerful program for documentary photographers who want to share their work with the world. Click on the link below which will take you to the slideshow and then you can watch it full screen, toggle the [...]

The apple doesn’t fall far?
The apple doesn't fall far?

The older I get, the more I begin to appreciate not just where I’m going– but where I came from. While I was home over break I looked at some slides of pictures my dad took when he was traveling in Europe years ago. It’s weird to see pictures of your parents when [...]

My 2009 China trip with LiNK
My 2009 China trip with LiNK

In the midst of an unexpectedly crazy-hectic fall, I never had the chance to finish doing post-production and sorting my images from my trip to China. I went to Northern China in October with my good friends over at LiNK to document their work over there.
It was a truly stretching experience both as a [...]

Nikon Festival top 50
Nikon Festival top 50

While I was in Brazil for Ira & Andrea’s wedding I had a couple extra days on my own at the end. I spent a good chunk of that time staying out of the rain and editing footage from the wedding, but I also took about 24 hours to put together a 140-second short [...]

Shake The Dust – NYC – Day 1
Shake The Dust - NYC - Day 1

Well, Patrick arrived here on a red-eye yesterday morning… and we hit the ground running.  For the next 5 days we’ll be shooting an 8 minute mini-documentary as we push forward with raising funding for this film.  I can honestly say that this past evening was one of the most creatively fulfilling nights of my [...]

We need your help…
We need your help...

I’ve been working on a side project for the last 6 months that is now finally (beginning) to come to fruition.  After 1 photo shoot and a very brief video shoot, I’m moving forward with an international “blogumentary” project entitled “Shake The Dust.”  The documentary, which will ideally be shared in the form of videos, [...]

Monday night wedding? Yes.
Monday night wedding? Yes.

I had an absolute blast the other day shooting Marci & Aaron’s wedding.  Such great people– and such a great event.  More shots from the actual wedding later, but a few random non-wedding shots from the night… I LOVE the last one.

Ryan & Emily
Ryan & Emily

I’m sitting in Beijing on at the tale end of a week-long trip to China. I’ll have loads of pictures to post down the road, but in the mean time, here’s a few of my favorite shots from last weekend. Ryan and Emily, good friends of mine from New York, got married at [...]

Christening the new place.
Christening the new place.

Friday night Janelle (who’s moving to New York next week), Erin, Jon, and I had a gypsy-style dinner at our new place. It felt like the official christening, and hopefully the first of many dinner parties to come.

Don’t worry, I’m still alive.
Don't worry, I'm still alive.

I haven’t posted in… days.  6 maybe?  Not totally sure.  This has been a really busy week.  House searching in New York.  Not fun.  But we found a place!
Until I have a chance to post the, probably… 20 posts I’m behind on… an old random picture of Samuel.

US Open of Surfing, 2009.
US Open of Surfing, 2009.

I’m photographing the U.S. Open  of Surfing in Huntington Beach again this year for one of my favorite clients.  Nike really saved the day with the open, and it has been incredible.  But with the prize money increase, the big names of surfing have been here: Andy Irons, Slater, Machado.  And that has meant CROWDS.  [...]

Texas sky.

Just few images from a hot Texas night a couple weeks ago. These are of my good friend Chad.

St. Joseph, MI.
St. Joseph, MI.

As this is being published, I’m en route to New York City on the Lakeshore Limited Amtrak train.  I’ll be getting some much needed photo editing done as I watch the scenery pass me by out the window.
Here’s a few shots from my trip to St. Joseph with my parents today.  It was gorgeous out!

Trevor & Kassi.
Trevor & Kassi.

Sitting at MSP airport waiting for my flight.  I’m exhausted.  Shot an incredible 4th of July wedding yesterday at a beautiful estate in La Jolla, CA.   It was one of the most tiring shoots  I think I’ve ever had, but so worth it.  Trevor and Kassi are dear friends of mine and I was honored [...]

448.
448.

Apparently this is my 448th post. I don’t know why I checked, but today was a day where posting is purely therapeutic, and I was just curious how many I had up here. Life is a little bit crazy for me right now. I flew in to Orange County this last Saturday [...]

Top 50 of 1,993. Now I need your help.

Well for those of you who didn’t know this, I applied for a job in Sonoma county at a winery called Murphy-Goode.  The job description is simple:

Coffee 61. Vicksburg, Mississippi.
Coffee 61. Vicksburg, Mississippi.

If you’re ever driving straight through  the heart of the south on interstate 20, heading toward the great, hot, endless Texas, stop at Coffee 61 in Vicksburg. What an oasis.  It’s a blogger’s dreamland in the midst the sweaty-hot endless south.
I’m not kidding:  decent coffee and drinks, fast internet, friendly staff, exceptional atmosphere, and [...]

Thunderstorms in Texas.
Thunderstorms in Texas.

Last evening while entering West Texas, Chad and I hit some pretty intense thunderstorms. Gusts of wind were actually pushing our big yellow truck into the other lanes. By the time we got to Dallas where we were staying for the night, the storm had momentarily calmed, but the electricity was out all [...]
