As much as I love this wonderful city in which I (sometimes – ha) live, during the summer it becomes a home base that I tag long enough to do laundry and (haggardly and frantically) try and catch up on responding to e-mails, paying bills, shoving disks in the mail, FTPing images, responding to phone [...]

Well this California trip has been a much appreciated break from the heat/humidity of New York – but it’s almost been TOO cold (the grass is always greener). Yesterday morning I wore a sweater and flannel at 6 AM when I got up to go surfing. But today, after 3 days of cloudy dreariness, we [...]

Some random thoughts from reading today since I don’t feel like writing many of my own words: …You cannot tell me who I am, and I cannot tell you who you are. If you do not know your own identity, who is going to identify you? Others can give you a name or a number, [...]

For those of you that have a self-hosted WordPress site like I do, you might be experiencing the same unbelievably aggravating image-upload issues that I am… It’s frustrating when you go through the trouble to upgrade software, and it’s a downgrade. Fix this, WordPress. You’re making my blogging life not-so-fun. Now that I have that [...]

Last weekend was a walk on the beach… this weekend was a day in the park. It was a pretty incredible day– the park was packed with New Yorkers playing frisbee, flying kites, throwing the baseball around. I went on a long early-morning bike ride, had a huge roommate breakfast, and then bathed in the [...]

Well, after 5 days of a broke-down website… my admin page to this blog is back up and running. So, to catch up: (This was written a few days ago, as you can tell): I’m actually now on day 6 of my trip to Turks & Caicos (which clearly puts me 3 days behind… oh [...]

We are currently on Day 4 of our trip to Turks & Caicos (although these are images from Day 2). It has been incredible– although I must say that my ENTIRE body is sore from shooting with a huge camera rig, 70-200mm lens, as well as sound equipment. Ira and I just finished shooting video [...]

I am SO exhausted– as in, exhausted to a level that is far beyond my usual level of tired-out-ness… I spent a good chunk of my week running errands, buying and renting equipment, meeting with clients, finishing up projects and… TAXES. This morning I hopped on a plane for Turks & Caicos with the Lippkes [...]

I mentioned before that I find the California Desert to be one of the most beautiful/tragic/inspiring places I know. Among the many different nuanced sites, roadside bars, natural wonders, and folk projects, you can add Noah Purifoy’s Joshua Tree Environment to the list of hauntingly beautiful things to see. Just outside of Joshua Tree National [...]

The music of the morning (among other things) is Balmorhea who, it turns out, have a really cool website. Also on the morning set-list, is my friend, the talented Emily Weiss, whose experimentation with lyrics and music and instruments somehow mixes whimsy with the deeply profound– even apocalyptic. In the past month, I managed to [...]

Well, it’s still raining in New York City. And it looks to continue to for the next 48 hours. I don’t mind it as long as I’m not out in it (which is sort of unavoidable here). In the mean time, to get my mind on spring-things– and in honor of daylight savings time and [...]

The desert has always been a huge source of inspiration for me and for my photography. I’ve been there time and time again either with friends, or alone. This past trip to California I spent a day there with Laurel and Hillary. Something about this trip was particularly special. I haven’t been up to the [...]

I’ve finally finished my photos and slideshow from my trip to Haiti, thanks to “Soundslides,” which is a powerful program for documentary photographers who want to share their work with the world. Click on the link below which will take you to the slideshow and then you can watch it full screen, toggle the sound, [...]

…was what I got from a day on the town in Fort Wayne that started with Pizza, then Powers Hamburgers (after which you cannot avoid reeking of cooked onions), and THEN the world famous Coney Island for chili smothered hotdogs. Good idea… or bad idea? The answer: Both.

In the midst of an unexpectedly crazy-hectic fall, I never had the chance to finish doing post-production and sorting my images from my trip to China. I went to Northern China in October with my good friends over at LiNK to document their work over there. It was a truly stretching experience both as a [...]

While I was in Brazil for Ira & Andrea’s wedding I had a couple extra days on my own at the end. I spent a good chunk of that time staying out of the rain and editing footage from the wedding, but I also took about 24 hours to put together a 140-second short film [...]

Happy Christmas to everyone! So I’ve accomplished a couple of things these last few days: fixed the broken links on my blog… successfully began editing past shoots (long way to go)… began preparing my big “2009″ year-end post… AND… finished one of the most rewarding jobs I’ve done yet to date. A month ago my [...]

Spent a whirlwind 2 days in Raleigh this past weekend and shot an amazing event with Ira. Thought I’d put up a few of the in-between shots that didn’t quite make the slideshow at the reception but that struck me as interesting.

There’s nothing particularly amazing about these images, but I snapped them in-between shooting video in Rio. I mostly shot video, so it was sort of unusual to find things that were picture-worthy and not get a shot in. Every once in a while, however, I would think to grab a still.

I swear this was my view when I opened my eyes at 5:30 in the morning. I slept in a favela (the slums) above the city. The last 4 days have been chalk full of stories. For now, here are the parts words can’t express:
