The music of the morning (among other things) is Balmorhea who, it turns out, have a really cool website. Also on the morning set-list, is my friend, the talented Emily Weiss, whose experimentation with lyrics and music and instruments somehow mixes whimsy with the deeply profound– even apocalyptic.
In the past month, I managed to go to Denver twice in a row. On my way back from California a couple weeks ago, my flight from Chicago to New York was canceled due to NEW YORK’S CRAZY WINTER WEATHER. I hadn’t left Orange County yet, and did NOT want to end up stranded with 130 Billion other sad people at O’hare, so I asked the nice lady at the counter if I could, instead, be stranded in some other city. Possibly a tropical international location? Like Bora Bora?
Turned out Denver was my best option. So I was stranded with my good friends Josh and Hannah as my hosts. And then one week later I went back on a planned trip that was filled with hookah, hiking in Breckenridge, good conversations, and rest (mixed with a little work).
More photos from that trip to come, but here are a few snow-capped ones…
These reminded me of some pictures of a wintry-freezing day in Wisconsin this past January:
