So my current early-to-mid-fall-New-York-subway-commute music of choice lately has been The National‘s album “The Boxer.” My favorite song on the album, a song that is both haunting and soothing, is “Green Gloves.”
Well yesterday morning I opened my mailbox and pulled out a padded envelope. When I saw the return address I had a pretty good idea what was inside.
Sarah Swanson-Dexel, mother of three, wife of Eric, and member of the coolest family in the Redwoods of California, sent me one of the coolest gifts ever: hand-made green gloves (well, mittens). But not just any pair of mittens, mittens that were hand crafted specifically for the photographing-adventurer-who-lives-in-a-city-where-it-gets-darn-cold.
Behold:
That’s Sarah and the fam (and me):
Thanks so much Sarah!

Um, those are genius. If she sold mittens, I would buy them…even though I live in California.
Is there a pattern for the green mittens?
def. good song.
sir. i am so glad you like them.
i do hope they keep your digits toasty.
you are loved.
[sorry commentor. no pattern, they are from the heart and well, i forgot to count and such before i sent them off...]
