Today was a long day. Possibly my longest travel day yet. I won’t go into the details, but it was exhausting, and in the process, my screen on my camera was mutilated. The camera still works, but the view-finder is shot.
It ended peacefully, however. After almost a 24-hour journey, I’m finally sitting in Vaughn, Washington on a body of water that is mysterious to me– though I’m told it is part of the Pacific somewhere out there past the gray stretch of land on the hazy horizon.
As I’m writing I’m sitting on the porch outside of a little cottage on the water. Bridesmaids and moms are scrambling to finish last minute projects. Lights are stringed in the yard, the moon is huge and orange, and I’m listening to Transatlanticism, which I haven’t listened to in a while, but just seems appropriate right now.
Tomorrow I shoot a wedding, and then scramble to finish some projects from the last couple weeks to get them online and in the mail, and then I’m shutting my computer down (hopefully) for the week. After the craziest summer of my life, I need fresh air. I need a break. And, by the looks of my fall schedule, I need to re-energize for the workload ahead. Don’t get me wrong, I’m so excited that work is coming in. And I’m incredibly excited that, aside from some potential international projects, it’s mostly in the New York City metro area. I can’t wait for New York fall. For crisp air, and bike rides.
But I do need a breather.
And maybe (perhaps) hopefully (please?) a few weeks break from sitting on a stupid plane. I’ve loved all the traveling, but today I realized it was taking a tiny bit of a toll.
So don’t be surprised if I don’t post here for a week. I need to time off– from everything. I need redwood trees and campfires and walking in the woods with close friends. Then come August 10th, I’m back online.
Getting to the good part in Transatlanticism. And it’s maybe time for bed?
Check out the view:
