I love viewing art that lifts my soul. In fact, good art, to me, lifts the soul. I by no means am suggesting that art should make you happy– possibly quite the opposite. But art, to me, should resonate in our chests. It should reverberate deep down in the pit of our stomachs. It should cause us to see Truth. Not bullet-point, book-read, fact-based truth. Not truth that is necessarily tellable, seeable, or cognitive. But truth, instead, that rises up from inside us and makes us see more clearly– that causes “the eyes of our eyes to wake” and the “ears of our ears to hear.”
Tonight I dealt with mildly frustrating congestion at an art opening at SEPIA International gallery a few blocks north of my apartment. But as I worked my way, camera in hand, through the throngs of people socializing, viewing art, and sipping wine and sparkling water, I realized there was a louder commotion then usual at an opening: it was the sound of kids. Kids crying and laughing and chatting. It was apropos for an art exhibit that is almost entirely about children.
The art: I am no good, especially when in a hurry (as I am right now), at trying to sum up my feelings about things that profoundly impact me. I usually fail to demonstrate the profundity and instead fumble over clichĂ©s and sentimentalities that come off more as melodrama then poetry. So check out some of these images, and then head over here to find out more about these wonderful artists’ work. Just click on “exhibitions” and than click on “The Intimate Line.”
Tonight the work of Elinor Carucci, Sunil Gupta, Amy Jenkins, and Angelika Sher lifted by soul.

Thanks for the post!
No problem. Great exhibit!
Amy Jenkins ‘s video was a mesmerizing visual work of art.
Striking in black/flesh color and red shoes…a must see.
