It’s been a while since I’ve been on an official “photo safari” (though I guess I view my whole life like a giant photo safari). I think my friend Laurel coined the phrase (though I’m sure it’s been used elsewhere). It’s pretty simple: head out on the town (or the country) with your camera with no real agenda and do your best to view the world (through your lens) with child-like wonder.
A friend-of-a-friend, Jill, e-mailed me the other day. She was in town visiting some friends in Jersey City and wanted to know if I wanted to do some photo-exploration. I, of course, am always down for that. So I agreed. She showed up here Friday morning, we had breakfast, and then headed out. Here’s some shots from our adventures…
The Village.
Jill.
Me.
The restaurant in the village has been closed down by the government for months. We were amazed at how all the tables were set but covered in dust… and mail had piled up on the floor.
9-11 memorial.
Bryant Park (which is getting ready for fashion week)
New York Public Library. It isn’t a proper photo safari if you don’t get yelled at by security.
Old/New
Grand Central Station.

the tables still set and mail all around reminds of when i worked in the flower shop…it went bankrupt… the owner walked away… i would go by look in the window at displays and flower buckets… and mail on the floor piled high… made me feel sad
