Well, I was a at a little bit of a loss as to what I should post. I really try to have at least one significant post a day but I was racking my brain for what to post because the last few days have been Sjoberg family reunion activities and I didn’t think everyone would be that interested in all of that. Then I realized my last few days have been pretty activity packed, just no photos to document it. Yesterday my brother-in-law, Joey and I went out on four wheelers for several hours across the farmland and into the woods. We eventually ended up (accidentally) in Canada. It’s been rainy and wet here so we came back pretty covered in mud and water.
There’s also been a LOT of eating. So I thought I’d share some of that with you all in these next two posts. The morning of the great 90th birthday party my cousin called me and asked, with a chuckle, if I “would have time this morning to whip up some home-made ice cream.” I told her I’d never made it before, but I’d try. So I head over to Aunt Marilyn’s house with a half-gallon of whole milk and some heavy whipping cream and she walked me through process. I thought I’d share that with you all.
1. Step one: Make a custard. This includes eggs, flour, salt, sugar, and milk. You cook and stir it for some time (WITHOUT LETTING IT BOIL… oops).
2. Step two: Pour into ice cream maker. Let the custard cool. Add strawberries or whatever ingredients you want to enhance your ice cream.
3. Step three: Well, this is actually several steps. You place the ice cream in the tin into the large mixer. You then mix in chopped up ice and rock salt alternately (I believe the rock salt maintains the temperature of the ice). Turn on the motor and let it go until you have ice cream!
