Quick review on the Hosteling International Hostel in Chicago… I’ve stayed here twice now (both during times of inclement weather) and its always been a really good experience. The staff is friendly and the hostel is enormous so you’re bound to meet some friendly out-of-towners. The mattresses are maybe my only issue… they’re covered in plastic mattress covers that make for a fairly loud nights sleep.
There’s a great free breakfast (cereal, muffins, toast, coffee, tea, orange juice) in an enormous loft-style dining area. Hot showers, great resource/information center. The internet situation is a little touchy. Sometimes it works sometimes it doesn’t but you can also pay a little money for some consistent fast internet.
Great cuban cafe downstairs with awesome/enthusiastic cuban owner.
